Microcosmic is my collection of miniature and interactive bronze sculptures. I wanted to create works in a smaller scale that would challenge the widely accepted belief that artwork, especially Sculpture, must be big to have any impact. Our post-industrial civilization glorifies the disposable, low-quality and larger-than-life and wreaks havoc on our world’s ecosystems in their pursuit, but these works intentionally promote a turn towards engaging with the small, complex, and durable. The forms contain monumental significance within a compact space. The humble accessibility of each sculpture allows for the viewer to pick it up, hold in their hands to experience all its angles, and understand art through more than just one’s eyes. The forms evoke anything from a tiny cell to the infinite universe, while we as human beings stand somewhere in-between.
To me, each piece is completed when the viewers’ hands become the base that displays the sculpture. The distance between the audience and the artwork is bridged and becomes shared space.
